The weather was poor, but the trip went ahead - and everyone was glad it did!
Sadly the Alpine Crossing was not going to be safe, due to the 100km/h gales and thunderstorms, but we still managed to fit lots in.
We changed accomodation to the Aoriangi Ski Club's lodge in Ohakune, which gave us lots of room, and was close to amenities. If you hear Tony and Mark drank all the beer on the first night, this is a vicious rumour, that we'll both flatly deny :)
First thing on Saturday morning we had a pictureque 10km walk to Blyth Hut at the tree line. After lunch this was followed by a 10km run (in the torential rain) along the Old Coach Road to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct - very good fun, and besides, once you're wet, you can't get any wetter!
We warmed up in the Powderhorn's swimming pool, topped off with a very tasty spag bol, made under the expert guidance of our genuine Italian guest, Giovanni.
Most people still had enough energy for a Sunday morning 10km run circum-navigating Ohakune town, including a most of it's riverside trails.
All in all, a fantastic trip with great people!
