Hutt Valley Runners Half Marathon

Our 21.1km event is perennial favourite.  Attracting elite runners to recreational walkers.  So whether you’re looking to challenge yourself with your first Half, or chasing a new ‘personal best’ this race is a great choice.

From our interesting start by the boat sheds and along the board walk, the course opens up for you to enjoy wide open spaces on gravel tracks through the golf course and all the way up the river trail to Melling Bridge.

Once our marshals will guide you safely across Block Road and the Melling Bridge you'll head upstream on tarmac trails along the river towards Taita and the turnaround by Fraser Park.

Now heading south, you’ll stay on the tarmac footpath, going under the Melling and rail bridges down to the Waione pipe bridge.  Once under the pipe bridge you’ll turning sharp left to come up and over the mouth of the river, before turning back in to Hikoikoi Reserve to loop behind the finisher’s field to race up the chute and finish under the main gantry.

You’ll be numbered and chipped, with official results published on this website after the event.

If you'd like help to hit your target time, then stick close to one our experienced pacers.  With their even tempo you'll have a better chance of making your goal are reality.  Pacer will be running the following target finish time:

  • 1hr 30mins
  • 1hr 40mins
  • 1hr 50mins
  • 2hrs 0mins
  • 2hrs 10mins

Open Inviation to Training Run

To help with your preparations for this year's Half Marathon, Hutt Valley Runners warmly invite you to join them for a flat 18.5km training run.

Perfectly timing a couple of weeks out from race day, this run will help you max your distance training, while ensuring there is time taper well so that you're fresh on race day.

The 18.5km run will be from Huia Pool in central Lower Hutt to Days Bay, along the scenic Eastern Bays, and back again.

There will be pack leaders to guide you, running at the following paces:

  • 5:30 mins/km (1h 56m)
  • 6:00 mins/km (2h 07m)
  • 6:30 mins/km (2h 18m)

No need to sign up, simply meet us at Huia Pool at 8am.
